Self-Publishing: An Illustrator’s Perspective (SCBWI Meeting Presentation)
I joined the SCBWI a little over two years ago and I began attending the Chicago Area Illustrators Network meetings. I was brand new to the world of illustration for children's book and immediately found that these meetings provided top notch info and topics every month. And they also provided the chance to network with other artists who had similar interests and experiences.
So I was honored when I was asked to present at this months meeting regarding my work as an illustrator with self published authors. I discussed my ongoing relationships with them, the projects we have worked on and what collaborations are underway. I also went over how I am using InDesign to do the layout of the next book. And how that has helped me provide better composition, color, value and space planning in my illustrations.
It was really fun to see my latest work projected behind me and I think the entire meeting went really well.
A special thank you to Terri Murphy and Janet McDonnell who invited me to speak and coordinate these fantastic meetings month after month.
If you are in the Chicago area and interested in attending a meeting they are open to the public and are held at the Des Plaines Public Library. We are off for the summer but meetings will start back up again in the fall. More info on meetings can be found on the SCBWI Illinois Chapter site located here:
